What is the significance of the chime in Netlist (5 replies)
There is actually no sound effects in ExpressPCB, so I am thinking it is something to do with your mouse driver or something else. Are you having any issues with the ExpressPCB programs besides the occasional chime?
I am reviewing the netlists of board in ExpressPCB.
Some of the nets I click on play a chime, some of the nets do not play a chime.
The chime is not random, it is always the same nets that play a chime and the same nets that do not play a chime.
Some of the chime playing nets appear to have an error, but as I am not familiar with the program I want to know about this undocumented feature.
Anyone else????
Hi Richard,
We apologize for the mix up.
The chime is indicating an error. If you look at the attached image called ne there is a component with a Part ID of C3a. The original Part ID was C3, this is how it was named in the schematic that was linked. When the component has the proper Part ID you see both pads are highlighted Blue. No chime when clicking on the pad.
When I changed the Part ID to C3a now only one pad is highlighted and I get the Chime. The Part ID has to be identical between the Layout and the schematic that is imported or the sch file linked to.
Right, thank you.

And, on a really Technical Note, this would be an accurate statement.
However, ExpressPCB posts an event to Windows to indicate an abnormal condition and the undocumented (it's not in the HELP) chime occurs.
So, when I, the customer, accurately describe what I have observed and heard, I don't really know that it is happening as a result of an event posted by ExpressPCB to Windows, I am after all an ExpressPCB user and not a Windows Programmer.
This is why support people should respond to users in help forums and not programmers, as programmers don't know anything about users.
When viewing the Netlist and clicking on (selecting) various netlists, sometimes there is a chime and sometimes there is no chime.
What is the significance of a chime?
What is the significane of no chime?
